What went down
The Creator Awards Global Finals gave us a memorable night of inspiring ideas and exciting surprises.
The Theater at Madison Square Garden was packed and the energy was buzzing as we gave away $4.3 Million dollars to creators from around the world. Adi Neumann and Justin Baldoni did a fabulous job of hosting the evening and supporting our finalists until the end. A live vote from the audience moved semifinalist Global Vision 2020 into the finals where they went on to receive the biggest award of the night – an impressive $1 million dollars. And in a surprise twist in the awards giving, not one but TWO finalists received the top funding, with the other $1 million dollar award going to Re:3D for their affordable, innovative, industrial-sized 3D printers.
Other surprises of the night included a promise from WeWork to hire finalist Eat Offbeat to cook home-style meals made by refugee chefs on a weekly basis and a job offer for CEO of CADUS Sebastian Jünemann.
In a shout out to the power of community, four Community Giver Awards were given in celebration of outstanding WeWork members from Minneapolis, Kansas City, Boston, and Brazil. Each of them was surprised to be acknowledged with trophies and awards of $18,000.
A spontaneous dance party and sing-along kept the crowd going while musical performances by Soren Bryce and Macklemore brought the house down.
The Creator Awards just keep getting bigger, bolder, and more impactful. The event lit up social media with over 100,000 views of the Livestream on Facebook.
But if you missed it, don’t worry. We’ve got great things in store for 2018 and beyond.
